The amusingly coincidental thing with this episode is that last week in World History, we had to “invent” “the next big thing” as part of our studies on the Industrial Revolution. My invention was basically these contact lenses, except the technology is surgically implanted directly into your brain instead of needing lenses. I just had to laugh, and plan on telling my teacher on Monday.
My throat misses the nice soda I almost received… :P

Growing Meat in Labs may not be the miracle answer to the worlds food problems. As much as I like the sound of growing meat in a lab and eliminating multiple problems we face now with live meat producers (eg Mad Cow etc) other problems also will arise. Humans have been cutting corners for years, once the Manufactures and Corporate Food Companies start to mass produce meat grown in a lab (or mega labs) do you think they will stick to the formula?? It is inevitable that profit makers will substitute in ill materials, poor methods of production to cuts costs and gain profits. What dangers will be brought to the table when this happens?

No disclosure…sooo we don't have to buy people cokes aaron! Didn't see that coming *smirk* :P

Awesome. Thanks for giving us free download links for the music. Is their any plans for a new interview with Stantan Freeman?

  • andrewtate

It's alright, Aaron, I don't care much for soda anyways!

  • rudeboi

Hey guys, love the show of course but the last song play on episode 212 wasn't listed, could you tell me the name of it?

  • http://mysteriousuniverse.org Benjamin Grundy

The last song is listed. It's the one linked under the big red “Final Track” at the end of the show notes ;)

  • rudeboi

Hey Ben, I really enjoy you and the show, let's not ruin that by being wise. I simply didn't scroll down far enough because I thought all the tracks would be listed consistently. Thank you.

  • rudeboi

Stanton Friedmon has nothing new to say, we all know he a nuclear physicist. Sorry I know you weren't talking to me but I couldn't resist.

  • http://mysteriousuniverse.org Benjamin Grundy

Well that's how I've done it since Episode 201 so it has been consistent

  • Stomper

My comment is about your “Bigfoot” story…

Contrary to what you guys said about the “red eye” phenomena, this is a consistent theme in alleged bigfoot sightings – and not unique to shadow people sightings.

Other than that, I love your show. Keep it up, guys!

I must say, I'm pretty disappointed in you guys for buying into the H1N1 vaccine. Swine flu isn't anything that can't be cured with chicken noodle soup and some hash brownies anyway. I don't trust that damn vaccine.

Loved this weeks show. ….I was so looking forward to a free coke ..lol

I didnt know (but know do) that you can download the whole tracks of the music used in the podcast…awesome

    Great choice Ben.

  • http://mysteriousuniverse.org Benjamin Grundy

huh? What do you mean by “you guys”? We haven't mentioned vaccines on MU before.

  • bluealien

People always talk about petrol companies and government witholding new technologies in fear of loosing money. And I am sure this has happened in the past.

But take a look around, just this weekend I saw a two hybrid electric cars advertised for a fairly resonable price.

Governments around the world are building renuable power generation plants.

I think things are changing, it may be slow and small but its happening.

A little alien technology would be handy though.

  • azzwright

Ben, when did we talk about any type of vaccine? By the way, THEY ARE SAFE!

  • azzwright

Well articulated point, thanks for that MacGyver!

  • azzwright

Well articulated point, thanks for that MacGyver!

  • azzwright

Thank you! Excellent point, we will just miss the oil peak. Humanity is very lucky.

  • OliviaW

A very important question: I'm using an episode of MU as a source for my English homework- the one when you mentioned oxytocin. Which one was it? I want to be able to cite it properly, despite the fact that my English teacher will never know the difference.

  • Dogma

I'm afraid the Black Eyed Kids stories smacks of urban legend-ness– especially the woman alone in her apartment. It was the kid tapping on the window that sounds a little too familiar, like we have heard it a dozen times before in other stories.

(Not to mention the boyfriend, who just *happens* to come home late.. etc etc..)

I hope I am wrong. Perhaps the other stories are legit…(?)

Hey Ben & Aaron, any update on the T-Shirts? I'd love to have an MU T-Shirt for Christmas . . .

Love the podcast, so glad you are back.

    Re:Human extinction and overpopulation

Have you guys looked into the researched provided in the documentary, “Demographic Winder”? The home site is here: http://www.demographicwinter.com/ though some of the material can be found on google video and youtube if you're interested (at least it was when I watched it a while back).

  • http://mysteriousuniverse.org Benjamin Grundy

I just got word that the shirts are ready and we are just waiting on product photos for the store. They should be available very soon.

Its not that we agree with Al Gore, I actually haven’t even seen his stuff. I think he is the opposite end of the spectrum. There is however significant scientific data that the Giga tonnes of CO, NOx and SOx we pump into the atmosphere is affecting our climate. Open your eyes

  • Jerry

global warming is happening but keep in mind water vapor generate more heat than all the carbon gases and keep in mind that global warming along with cooling occurs in natural cycles. Remember Iceland during height of the Viking age was warm enough for dairy farming and cover in forest. Now same farms are under ice because of global cooling taking place that ended some five hundred years ago. New England in America, hasn’t had summer free year since the 1750′s when snow left the ground in June and started again in August. So before you get alarm about the planet heating up, wait until trees can grow again in Iceland.

  • itutton

I'm so glad you covered the Black Eyed Kids! Ever since the Halloween special I've been kind of fascinated by the story, even though it does sound strangely urban legend-esque. I liked the story with the dog though. That was cute. I wonder if the dog is strange in any way?

  • Nick

Hey Aaron..just regarding the spontaneous combustion discussion.. you were talking about alcohol in its chemical form. Just wanted to point out it is the OH group that makes a hydrocarbon an alcohol not H-C combinations :) Just wanted to be a pain in the butt and point that out. Great work on the show guys. Keep it up!!

  • Nicole

Love the episode – I did my final year thesis on human overpopulation and it's good to see people recognising that there is the possibility that the end of the world could be caused by having too many humans.

Ben, just listened to your very first MU episodes – they're really different from the current format. Nevertheless, I was REALLY glad to hear a female voice on the show. Tell Theresa us girls want her on MU every now and then.

And yay – I'm hoping the t-shirts will come in time for Christmas!

  • Nicole

Jesse – until Ben gets the official forums back up, you can always head over to the Facebook page and start a few discussions there.

  • Nicole

Things are changing, but here in Australia it's pretty slow. We have yet to have electric cars advertised for sale (as far as I know), and hybrid cars aren't all that mainstream here (but they are picking up).
I can't remember which episode it was in Season 1, but Ben covered something on a guy who invented a car that ran on garbage … or water … something like that. I'll try to track it down and let you know.

  • rtoivonen

You both believe in the god Al Gore and his cooked climate data? Climate change (global warming) is fool aid for fools. The climate is always changing just not a result of us common people. Maybe you should both look into HARP weather modification to get up to date on reality.

Ross – CA U.S.A. Down with tyranny!

Ha! I havn't heard the first episodes, but now I need to! I had no idea T featured in those! ;)

  • morrisonfan

Glad MU is back!!! The Black eye kid story gave me chills. I listen to the show while I am at work and after hearing about the encounters people have had I was scared. I rushed to my car and went home and kept all my windows and doors closed. Even though I am scared, I would love to hear about more encounters.

Hey great episode, I would defiantly eat lab meat…I mean it can’t be worse then the stuff they sell as “meat” now anyways.

Just a little side note I was in a meeting a couple months back and the topic of solar maximum came up. The word from NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration…ya they also monitor the sun) was that the solar maximum which was thought to be 2012 is actually looking like it will happen in 2013. It’s still supposed to be strong but bad news for the 2012 people…

That incident with the plane sounded very much like single event upset (or other such phenomena SEU, SEL,SEB). Basically a very energetic ion punches through the circuit board and either does physical damage or bit flips. An example would be that it causes a 1 to change to a 0 which causes a positive to change to a negative, suddenly the plan autopilot thinks it’s upside down and tries to correct it…which leads to bad things happening.

As for the space based solar power, in my mind the one of the biggest problems is the ground based receiver. Last I heard the antenna that receives the power from space needs to be kilometers across depending on the amount of power you send down.

Anyways keep up the good work…and any chance we could get the old forums back?

  • jessehobbs

    tks nicole

  • Shelly

One of your best episodes yet! I loved the diversity of material covered, and especially love the science updates! Thank you for continuing to put out MU and for all the hard work you guys do to produce this. It is my favorite podcast!

  • snakefarmer

By the time trees grow in Iceland, or it becomes a “farmable” area, the coasts of other continents will be under water. So how is that meant to be some consolation?

And if anyone thinks that the billions of tons of emissions put out in the last 75 years isn't impacting the warming phenomenon , then you're ignoring the obvious. Natural cycles don't move at that speed. We're 90% responsible for it. We need to stop this false “debate” about whether we're causing it-nobody without a vested interest can deny that we are.

  • Tikki

I'm half way through this episode, and I have to say that this is one of the best ones yet!!
I'm normally just a lurker on here, reading the comments, articles, and feedback…but I had to comment on …

    (a) the creepy nature of the Black Eyed Children – I'm SOOOO glad you've included more on these incidents! I loved your Halloween podcast (which was what got me addicted to you guys!) and it's great to hear more about them…I don't care if they're fact or fiction, they give me goosebumps!!

    (b) your ghost stories. I go a cold chill when you were telling the tale of the drivers looking in their mirror and seeing a lady behind them…wow! It made me regret sitting in my dark office, all alone, listening to your podcast!

Great work! And glad to know the T-shirts are soo to be ready!! :) I've already requested one and season 1 for the holidays!!

Back to the last half ;)

  • Phildo4u

actually you will find it can happen very quick, a snap ice age can happen within a decade. Carbon is not the enemy, the atmosphere is actually in a carbon famine at this point in time. this whole debate about man made global warming and carbon emissions is just distracting us from the fact that “toxic industry” is destroying the planet. If all that came out your car exhaust was carbon then there would be no issue at all. its the other chemicals that we pump into our air and water that will screw us.

    quoting you,

“We need action, We need to start growing and consuming local food, using land wisely and sustainably, and stop supporting the companies that are working against us. The wisest thing a person can do today is to learn to provide for yourself and stop relying on the systems that brought us to this point.”

    100% RIGHT!
