Fix the Yeti ... Please by janoimagine via http://www.flickr.com/photos/wedrrc/4327316639/

To kick of this weekend’s installment we look at the recent comments from the Royal astronomer, Alien tracking tricks, and a classic abduction account with chilling regression audio.

(My favorite by far though is the tale of the Idaho Dinosaur!)

Aaron also reveals his plans for self experimentation, this time with mood altering audio.

Links and music after the jump.

Exploding head syndrome! I'M NOT ALONE! >_< HAHAHA! Could it be related to memory echoes or something?

That last bit about the salvia trip is very reminiscent of my own. I believe these bad trips are both common and similar. That hard swallow and the sensation of fear is something I could definitely relate to. Right when I, erhem, inhaled, the tingles set in. I looked at my friend and it was the craziest thing ever. It wasn't him anymore. My mind was so warped that he took on the form of some sort of demonic gate keeper. Reason why I say gate keeper is because the entity was holding a lamp. It was ****ing weird. The “thing” spoke to me. It told me to break my friends bong that they had happened to name the “white angel.” A beautiful piece. I almost went through with it apparently but my friend grabbed it before I could and just told me to relax. Of course I was so far gone that I couldn't understand what was going on. I broke into a full run, laughing maniacally, yet knowing that I was enveloped in fear. I ran around in circles until I came to…when I did was just baffled. Couldn't believe what happened. Then again, the setting wasn't exactly POSITIVE. IT was a dark and cold night and we did it outside, FAIL, near a neighborhood that we weren't familiar with. I was with two friends and both had….decent trips I suppose. Definitely a mental twister.

Pretty intimidating stuff. My previous experience with salvia yielded something that I can only describe as tron-ish. I also had a feeling that I had something VERY important to tell people when I came to. OF course I forgot and when I came to, the words that came out of my mouth were “Galactic Federation.” Pretty funny. I don't know if I could take it seriously.

Any ways, keep up the good work guys. And Aaron, I wish you the best of luck with those nightmares! I hope nothing bad happens! Would suck to lose ya to Freddy Krueger!

Personally I've always been annoyed with the all those “smart” people who keep saying that there are aliens that are so outside our realm that we couldn't hope to interact with them. Sure that might be the case what good will that knowledge do us. If we can't interact (or even comprehend them) with them then we can't find them so whats the point in even looking for them. It would be a bigger waste of money then people claim SETI is.

“The problem is that we’re looking for something very much like us, assuming that they at least have something like the same mathematics and technology”

The reason we look for aliens like us is because we know what to look for. You can't find something if you don't even know what your looking for. Its like looking for food without even knowing how to eat.

In the end there's a reason why we're “following the water” or “eavesdropping on the stars”, its because it gives us focus for our search. Once we have more information we can refine our search or change its direction but until then these kinds of comments are just soundbites by people who just want to steal your money for “research”.

Even more annoying then that is researchers from a completely different field talking about something they don't know anything about to sensationalize their research. While the effects of atoms on an object moving close to the speed of light is interesting that has nothing to do with warp drives.

The current theory behind warp drives is to surround the ship in a bubble of sorts. The space in front of the craft contracts while the space behind it expands, aka warping, which has the effect of moving the bubble forward. Therefore whats inside the bubble doesn't actually move in relation to its surroundings. That means there will be no killer atoms smashing into it and it also means that theoretically the bubble should be able to move faster then the speed of light since its not actually “moving” (so no trouble from the theory of relativity).

So don't worry Star Trek fans, the Human race might yet one day travel at warp speeds.

Other then those two pet peeves great episode, if only I had the acting skills to give me the chance at a salt lamp lol.

Anyone else but me think the sounds from the nightmare kit are from bad 50s and 60s Scifi movies? I know I have also heard some of them on some of the older Dr. Who shows.

I know that whenever I fall asleep with instrumental music playing my dreams are always really twisted and a bit on the “nightmare” side of things for some reason. Even if the music is really relaxing and calm, for some reason that stimulus gets translated into some wicked surrealist oddities in my dreaming brain. I suffer from insomnia from time to time, and so experimented with playing new age-type music to help lull me to sleep, but it made me have bad dreams, so I stopped.

I imagine that playing audio that was already generally perceived by most to be “off” or “disconcerting” in some way, would easily cause strange dreams. I'll be interested in seeing how thing go with Aaron's and all the listener experiments with this nightmare kit.

Yea. I've gotten that for most of my life – although I've never linked it to exhaustion or stress. I'll make sure to keep note of when it happens and the circumstances I'm experiencing at the time from now on.

Cool to hear how many people have had the same thing happen! Although it sucks if it's a scary experience for them. I've never been alarmed by it or anything – just thought it was weird.

Count me as one who has an exploding head. Though I always assumed I was just having a vivid dream. It generally happens when I'm sleeping really lightly, kind of in that vaguely conscious in-between. I either get jolted awake by a metallic clash, like cymbols, as the article mentioned, or by lots of disparate sounds/voices crescendoing to a shout. The latter is probably anxiety-based. Everybody wanting something from you, that kind of thing.

I do suspect this phenomenon is pretty common. After all, it has a name. Now that it's hit the press, we should all probably expect the pharmaceutical industy to jump right on a medication to control your EHS symptoms in the very near future.

I thought the exploding head thing was due to my several head injuries sustained during 20 years of active duty military. I have always studied Shaman ways. Mt family are native American and Russian. I keep Crystal's near my bed, last time I had one of these episodes my wife said she heard almost an electrical cracking in the crystals just a split second before I woke up. It was so strange it was as an earthquake was going on then BOOM. I have always had abilities above average my wife said she has never heard of anyone that has the ability to do some of the stuff I do. I have been this way since birth. My history is a rather interesting one. maybe I should email it to you?
