Would You Like Some Salt with Your Lamp?

Saltlamp

With the construction of the new studio I went in search of an unusual lamp to add some character to the room. Little did I know I would embark on journey that would lead me to discover the wonders of Himalayan Salt Lamps.

Firstly, let me say WOW! The benefits we have experienced with these lamps in our homes and the studio have been significantly noticeable and exciting. Let me give you a little background…

What is a Himalayan Salt Lamp?

Himalayan crystal rock salt was formed many millions of years ago when the seas dried up. Gradual evaporation, and the conditions prevailing in the interior of the earth, resulted in the formation of a crystalline structure that gives rock salt its typical appearance. Crystal rock salt is the most beneficial, pure salt available on this planet. It consists of the most perfect geometric structure possible in rock crystals and is the result of millions of years of compression under the Earth’s surface. It has a precise mesh with our body’s inner workings because Himalayan crystal salt contains an almost identical set of elements to those found inside the human body: that is, 84 of the possible 92 trace minerals, in the same proportion that naturally exist in our blood.

Research and experience have proven the healthy and therapeutic benefits of this rock salt, especially if illuminated as heat helps it discharge negative ions into the atmosphere that balance the high proportion of positive ions which are released by the use of electronic items such as television sets, radios, artificial air conditioners, dryers and vacuum cleaners. Smoking also pollutes our air with positive charge ions. The negative ions emitting from rock salt lamps freshen the atmosphere and improve air quality by removing harmful positively charged particles from the air, thus also serving as natural air purifiers.

Some of the specific benefits include:

• Improved sleep

• Relief from migraines

• Reduction of the severity of asthma attacks

• Increased work productivity and concentration

• Relief from sinus problems, hay fever and allergies

• Improved digestion

• Enhanced immune system and lung capacity

• Reduction of susceptibility to colds and flu

How did it benefit Aaron and Ben?

Ben and I have experienced considerable improvements in concentration, energy and enthusiasm while putting a show together. Thanks to the wonders of summer in Australia both Ben and I suffer from the occasional bout of hay fever. Since running a Himalayan Salt Lamp in the studio we have both experienced a considerable reduction in hay-fever (except for the MUP109! ~ Ben).

I myself feel especially invigorated after spending a couple of hours near the lamp and Ben had told me he loves having the lamp in his house to help him sleep.

I am really surprised and excited by the benefits I have experienced running these lamps! Pretty impressive considering I purchased the first one solely for the look.

Where can I get one?

Despite living in one of the largest cities in Australia, a search of my local shops revealed nothing. As such I did a Google search and found Natural Gifts for You. The proprietor of this store is Lil Petrovski and she has been as amazing as her lamps! She has an incredible knowledge of the lamps and buying from her has simply been a pleasure. Lil’s lamps come in all shapes and sizes including natural rock formations, spheres, pyramids and fire bowls.

Each of the lamps I ordered arrived promptly and very well packed. Lil also supplies other great products in addition to the Himalayan Salt Lamps. I strongly recommend checking out her store at www.naturalgiftsforyou.com

Unfortunately, Lil currently only supplies her products to Australia, however I strongly recommend our listeners in other locations google a local supplier, get one and let us know how you benefit from these great lamps.

Stay tuned to for an upcoming chance to win one of these great lamps.

Hooray, my new salt lamp arrived today! (lost custody of the old one in my last move). It's parked next to the TV for now, but may be moved to the kitchen so that we can grate some off of it whenever we need some Himalayan Pink Salt for a garnish. I guess it's all the same. Even if it is a homely lamp, I am very happy and look forward to its air cleaning ionizing vibe thing. Got it on Amazon, a real good deal, delivered to my door for a total of $19.

I think the first episode I heard of Mysterious Universe started out with, 'Would You Like Some Salt With Your Lamp?' At first I didn't know what to think so I went in search of salt lamps on the web. They were easy to find and found the health claims interesting. I ordered one for my room and one for the office at work.

They came today and I'm so excited to try them out. I had to laugh as I took one out of the box though because it truly looks like a lump of rock. It feels like it too as I got the 15lb one. I can't wait to put the other on on my desk tomorrow and get strange looks from everyone as they pass by my glowing salt lamp.

My aunt already wants one if the health benefits truly pan out. I told my mom to wait for Christmas - It's salt lamps for everyone!

I really hope my cat doesn't lick it though. Knowing Boo he'll just try to knock it off the table in the middle of the night.

I love the show and love sending emails to my friend with all the strange stuff I hear like Space Nazis on the dark side of the moon, cows jumping 6 feet and my personal icky favorite pulling hemorrhoids out with your fingers. Aaack!!!!

Update: So, a lot of people at work love the salt lamp and several knew what it was and wanted to know where I got mine. One co-worker loves hers and swears it helps with her asthma. As for me, so far so good.

First, to let people know, Amazon.com sells these, so they should be easy enough to get. Anywhere from $15.00 to $60.00

I went searching my city of Calgary, Canada. And was lucky to find a small East Indian shop right behind my work. Here I was thinking I was going to have to travel around the city to get one, but I only had to travel 5 mins. So I get there thinking I was going to have to pay around $30.00 or so to buy one. But to my suprise they were only $5.00 for the large size and $2.00 for the small (really small ones) So I got 6 of them. Four rock shape, one bowl shape and one orb shape. I'm going to give most of them away for presents. So I say if your paying anything more then $20.00 not including shipping, then you might be paying to much. I'm considering buying more and selling them on ebay. But they are a little heavy, so I'm thinking shipping might be a little much.

They are brighter then I expected. Since I sleep in pitch black, this will take a little getting use too. I think I will buy a blue light bulb to make it dimmer, Or move it to the tv room.

I hope this gives people an idea on how to find one, and how much to spend.

Hey Aaron now that you have the lamp, it's time to get, "Ear Coned" or candled. LOL
  • Just ordered a lamp from amazon of all places cant wait till it ships, haven't been this excited for an item since halo2 lol.
  • Hmmm... we'll see. I just thought that they looked cool and I found a big round one for $25 (US), postage included so I ordered it. I don't know if it will kick out negative ions, but I think it will offset my plasma ball nicely and it should be fun to watch my wife's cats lick it...

    Micheal,

    Where did you get it?

Another wonderful use for a salt lamp... a cat lick :) Is there anything these lamps can't do!
  • Like a dork, the first thing I did with my salt lamp; I licked it. And it is definitely good salt. There is something to be said for them; it's a decongestant AND a condiment! The light emitted is very restful, although the lamp itself looks sort of like a Horta baby from old skool Star Trek.

Synchronicity! Just 2 days ago I was in this pharmacy on Kauai that had all sorts of odd items in there. I was browsing around and saw something called a "salt lamp". Unfortunately for me, I didn't even bother to look at it closer and just marveled at the assortment of useless junk people will buy. Little did I know what I was passing up. I am now far away from Kauai and don't have the chance to take another look at it. Darn.

so can i buy one and you send it to me? (just kidding)

I love natural remedies and this seems like a valid one. Salt of the earth!

Since i had my nose "fixed" after the spring "break" I have headaches. I always have issues sleeping. So anything helps.

In a rare note I barely suffer from Allergies. Yeah I am an anomoly on Long Island! Ha! But when the pollen count goes up way high I cant take allergy meds, it makes my heart race, get light headed to almost pass out. (friend at work almost past out watching me almost pass out).

I will look to see what we have here in the States.

But...maybe next time you visit you bring one and drop it in the post. lol

I love the show. I really do.

Being a + member is awesome and costs less than a diet coke a day.

Take care, going to listen to some guys on a podcast now with nice accents.

Colleen or coboot wont let me post as a member??

    Hey Colleen!

Don't worry about that, sometimes there is a delay in the comment system. It will get posted eventually :)

Let me know how you go if you get one!
