Steve Volk - Fringe-ology

Episode 523 – Mysterious Universe

Steve Volk joins us to talk about his new book Fringe-ology and share his experience of “Explaining the Unexplainable”. Volk takes us through a wide spectrum of the paranormal from NDEs to Lucid Dreaming, and manages to bring a refreshingly honest and skeptical, yet open minded perspective to the table.

We also manage to squeeze in RFID conspiracies, treppenation, and black eyed astral encounters.

Read on for show notes, music, and Fringe-ology.

Great Episode!  I enjoyed the interview.  I found it interesting when you were talking about how the human brain is always trying to explain things.  As I get older, I find it bizarre how confusion is connected with anger.  It seems when people don’t understand something they get angry, regardless of the situation.  I don’t know if people feel belittled by something if it defies explanation or if it hurts the brain to leave something unresolved.  Even in comedy, its really strange how people seem to get angry when they don’t understand a joke.  I think those of us who can just leave something as a mystery without having to make a giant leap to some sort of conclusion are the next step in the evolution process.  We will defeat the Space Nazis and turn their moon bases into luxury condos for Shadow People.  Looking forward to the next plus show!

Really nice episode guys. The Volk material was tremendous.

Yeah, I’ve seen people completely blank out also at the prospect of coming up with an explanation. And sometimes ignore the fact that something actually happened. “What are you talking about??? I don’t remember that.” kind of answers.

It was a great show. Lots of good stuff. I agree with him on the alien abduction thing. because of the whole viruses and bacterial problem, but if they’re far advanced enough to fly here they could have a way of overcoming that. We still won’t contact tribes in the forests of Brazil because of viral born illnesses that we carry.

In the lucid dream category Salvador Dali the great surrealist used to sit in a chair holding a metal bowl in his lap and holding a spoon or fork over the bowl. When he’d drift off to a slight sleep he’d drop the utensil and make a loud clang. He’d get wild and weird images at that moment, wake up and draw them. Then turn them into paintings.

What a wonderful episode Guys. Great interview and Steve was brilliant in making everything informative and entertaining. Well done!

I can’t agree with him more. I always say that “I don’t not believe in anything,”which is exactly where he seems to be coming from regarding the scientific method. Sadly that method like everything comes with the human condition. What I loved so much was the way Steve laid out those issues and walked the middle path so well.

…and the banter between the three of you was fun to listen to also. You should all go out drinking together and make an episode out of that :)

Steve Volk was such a great interview. Intelligent, concise, level-headed and very very funny. I listened to the show twice in a row because I was disappointed when it was over the first time. The three of you had great chemistry together, as other commenters here have said.

I need to get Fringe-ology and read up about lucid dreaming. It was always a vague interest of mine, but when it was discussed in the interview, I developed a fiery need to explore it further.

As for “Fringe-ology 2″: somebody needs to hook somebody up with something and write about it. That’s all I’m saying about that.

Thanks for making my yardwork today so entertaining!
