Very interesting. I have some questions.
Does there exist any evidence of a mechanism of this effect? If not do you think there will ever be evidence found?
Does this mean the human race is special or does it effect all animals? Could it perhapes effect humans more because of our enhanced cognitive abilities. Are there any correlations of rise and fall in primate groups?
Do we really have enough correlations to come to this conclusion? How many cycles do we have any kind of data on? Is there any reason to think this is not just post diction, retrofitting or a result of pattern seeking and not a real physical effect?
Is the effect a even physical phenomenon of the universe (and thus related to the grand cycle) or is it an emergent effect of social interactions and civilisation building by humans? I mean is it possible this observation is a good model of a cycle in human civilisation but is not a result of a physical effect (as yet unknown) from the grand cycle or from some other cyclical event in the universe.

I only have one question: what do the yugas matter? What is the practical outcome of knowing human history is on a 24,000 yr cycle?  Very interesting, though

People should check out Walter Cruttenden if they’re interested in the World Ages and the Procession of the Equinox. He seems fairly informed about the science behind it.

Also, one thing to point out: Perhaps the reason we don’t see technology or items from ages past is because they’ve deteriorated over the centuries. We make a lot of our “stuff” from petroleum..plastic, rubber, etc. Those things don’t degrade over time ( unfortunately), but in the past an advanced civilization could have existed but not used petroleum as a building element and therefore no evidence would remain.  That in itself would make them more advanced than us in a sense.

Interesting, but primarily as an example of how motivated reasoning can cause folks to believe really odd, and certainly untrue, things.  The guest of course has no “proof” of anything he says, and would sneer at me for requesting any.  Just an example of how reductionist, unenlightened and closed-minded I am, you see.  To show how we are getting in touch with life energy he uses a trick by a martial artist played on his true believer disciples — whenever these martial artists are challenged to perform their tricks on skeptics, they never work, of course.  And then he says something about how the fact that the age of ancient primates keeps getting pushed back (primitive ape-like creatures dating perhaps 6 million old have been found) means that  50 million-year-old advanced civilizations are possible.

It’s possible to invent an argument for pretty much anything by retro-fitting real events with an imaginary “pattern.”

I have no problem, of course, with Mr. Selbie living in his quaint little “spiritual community.”  He’s welcome to believe whatever he wants.  I have to admit, though, that as a college professor trying to teach my students to ground their thinking in reality rather than fantasy, these kinds of things make me cringe a little.

That said, I enjoyed the episode, as I almost always do.  So, thanks.
