MU’s “Spirited” Interview with Psychic Medium Rebecca Rosen

Mar 28th in Featured & Spirituality by Amelia Crater

Rebecca Rosen doesn’t exactly “see” dead people, which is probably a good thing, because if she did she’d probably never make a public appearance for fear of being mobbed by all the DLO’s, i.e., Departed Loved Ones, clamoring for her attention.

Instead the spirits of the dead speak to her across the ether in a language of signs and symbols that she can interpret, but can often be understood only by the person for whom the message is meant, the still living loved one, Rebecca’s client.

MU caught up with Rosen on the last stop of  the promotion tour for her new book “Spirited: Connect with the Guides Around You,” which is part memoir, but mostly it’s a how-to on tuning into the spirit messengers without a psychic middleman. Why is she giving away trade secrets? Rosen says her psychic ability was a gift she never expected to receive. She is convinced that it is an talent we all share, but like singing or ice skating or calculus, some of us are far more skilled at it than others.

While Roving the Red Planet, NASA’s Mars Rover is “Getting Smarter”

Mar 26th in Space & Astronomy by Micah Hanks

In a recent NASA press release, officials state that the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity has acquired new capabilities that allow it to “make its own choices about whether to make additional observations of rocks that it spots on arrival at a new location.”

What technology, you may ask, could have provided for such developments? Has prolonged exposure to the red sands of Mars caused the humble little droid to evolve, or is something else at play?

Indeed, it appears that new software was uploaded remotely over the winter, which enables new capabilities for the Red Rover, by “taking advantage of the twin Mars rovers’ unanticipated longevity for real Martian test drives of advances made in robotic autonomy for future missions.”

Tripping the Musee Mecanique on Atlas Obscura Day

Mar 23rd in Modern Mysteries by Amelia Crater

It would be “wondrous” (or more like miraculous in this economy) to globe trot from one exotic location to the next all in one day, much less 80 “curious and esoteric” destinations.

This was the challenge Atlas Obscura.com — which describes its mission as “a collaborative project with the goal of cataloging all of the singular, eccentric, bizarre, fantastical, and strange out-of-the-way places that get left out of traditional travel guidebooks and are ignored by the average tourist” — took on for the first Atlas Obscura Day held on March 20.

Terrifying New York “Vampire” Assaults Cab Driver

Mar 23rd in Bizarre & Featured by Micah Hanks

Most cab drivers have their share of horror stories, especially those who work late-night shifts. Many of these involve robberies, or occasionally even encounters with strange freaks of nature that would cause even the most skeptical among us to consider whether life from other planets might exist right here among us.

But for New York cabbie Mahmoud Seck, what initially appeared to be an attempt at robbery by a gun-wielding assailant ended up becoming far more terrifying.

A Fox News Report detailed how the suspect, a Latin American man wearing a scarf and cap, was picked up by the driver at Lexington Ave. and 130th street in Manhattan, then taken to West 180 St. and Davidson Ave. in the Bronx. “Once there, he pulled out a gun and tried to rob the driver,” the report said. At this point, while the passenger attempted to rob him, Seck struggled with the man, who, rather than using the gun, suddenly began biting the cabbie on the neck in an act of aggression that has been described as something “that would make Bram Stoker blush.”
