Music has long been considered a sort of “universal language,” capable of conveying feeling and emotion within compositions that surpass barriers presented by verbal communication and culture. From the primitive tribal drumming used in rituals by indigenous groups for thousands of years, to the advanced electro-neural trances created by techno beats in clubs on Saturday nights around the world, the vast and various ways our bodies are affected by music and sound still present many mysteries.

In fact, some research indicates that our brains are actually more open to unique influence from auditory stimulation than we realize. According to studies conducted by Nina Kraus, director of the Auditory Neuroscience Laboratory at Northwestern University, Illinois, when we hear a sound the responding brain waves that manifest are physically identical to the sound wave being perceived. Conversely, if a recorded brain wave is then taken and fed through a digital playback device, the sounds they produce are also nearly identical.

For nearly a quarter of a century following the death of famed psychoanalyst Carl Jung’s, his family kept the Red Book locked in a safety deposit box, which is an irony Jung would most certainly have found synchronistic , reflecting as it does  nearly the number of years it took to purge the material from his own subconscious.

The book was finally released by the family in 2009. The original has been on display at the Rubin Museum in New York and W.W. Many times throughout history, especially in recent times as modern technological advances continue to push the boundaries of our capabilities as humans, we have asked, “if other civilizations exist out there in the cosmos, are they like us?”

Less frequently do we ponder whether this is something that should concern us; with humanity’s history of conquest, capture and colonialism, if alien beings were anything like us, what if they decided to act in this manner toward humans if they visited Earth?

Sadly, looking at things in terms of economics, we may have at least one assurance: if aliens are indeed like humans, there’s a good chance they’ve gone through recessions too, as well as the inevitable budget cuts that result from strenuous economic times such as those we face globally at present. Thus, it could be reasoned (albeit lightheartedly) that if aliens were really that much like us, they wouldn’t have been able to get their spacecraft off the ground in order to get here!
