UFO Over New York Has Residents Mystified

New York City residents are used to seeing many strange things. Now some of them can add UFOs to their list as a bright red unidentified object was reportedly seen by many people on April 25 over the Bronx, one of the five boroughs of the city.

The sightings occurred around 6:30 pm and seemed to be centered in the Hunts Point neighborhood of the South Bronx in the northernmost borough of New York City. Pigeon keeper Juan Marrero was on the roof of his building and says he saw two bright lights cross the sky above him.

I look up and see this fireball, ‘Whoosh!’ and then another, ‘Whoosh!’ From one side of the sky to the other, too fast for an airplane.

Marrero seems to be one of the few witnesses claiming to see two objects and he also was the only witness to report the time as 11:30 pm. The speed of the UFO was also noted by Andres Morales, who saw it from his car. His photograph seems to be the only one taken.

I stuck my hand out the car window and snapped like crazy. I don’t know what it was but it was moving crazy fast.

Another witness said the light was stationary for a time, then sped quickly out of sight. A 911 emergency operator reported getting a call that a “flying spaceship” was passing over East 149th and the Bruckner Expressway. That area is across the East River from LaGuardia Airport but no one seemed to think the lights were from planes.

What was this UFO? Was it one or two? New York Times reporter Liam Stack says he called the police and they refused to answer any questions. Of course, this is New York so that’s not surprising.

Ted Roe, executive director of the National Aviation Reporting Center on Anomalous Phenomena, said NARCAP received no reports at the time of the sightings. The New York Mutual UFO Network said it was most likely a meteor from the annual Lyrid shower which took place April 22 to April 26. NASA reported one meteor sighting but it was near Buffalo, which is nowhere near the Bronx.

New Yorkers would rather believe they were visited by aliens looking for the best pizza in the universe so they’re still waiting for some better explanations of this UFO sighting.
