Unidentified ‘Ghost’ Girl Seen by Remote Camera in Upstate New York

An eerie picture taken by a remote trail camera has police and townsfolk baffled about who the ghostly mystery girl in the picture might be. The image was taken near Route 74 in the rural village of Cambridge, New York by cameras set up to monitor a section of woods used as private hunting grounds. The owners of the land (and cameras) came forward to law enforcement after they saw the photo with the little girl and were instantly creeped out. According to local news reports, no one has come forward to identify the girl in the ghostly photograph in the two weeks since it was taken.

What was a little girl doing out there by herself anyway?

Local ABC affiliate News10 interviewed Interviewed local residents on the street to get their opinion on the photograph. There is no real general consensus about who (or what) the girl might be, at least from the interviewees the news station chose to include. “I think it’s a ghost. Look at it. It’s definitely a spirit,” one woman claims. Yet the next woman interviewed says she thinks “it’s just a little girl playing in the woods.”

Cambridge residents are stumped.

For Cambridge Police Chief George Bell, the idea of a ghostly little girl prowling the woods in this small upstate NY town is a new one:

I’ve lived here all my life and I’ve never heard of a ghost running around the woods. The idea originally was just to identify who the child was. Now it’s been a few weeks and still no one has come forward and imaginations are soaring. I don’t know, there is some creepy stuff in this town.

Bell says the image is definitely not a fake, but that police have no leads whatsoever.

A team from the Greenwich Paranormal Research Team is being dispatched to the area to conduct research and determine if anything supernatural is indeed going on. President Tania Woodward says her team is remaining skeptical, looking for what is likely a perfectly normal explanation before jumping to any conclusions:

We like to look at the actual footage from the actual camera it came from. What neighborhood kids are around? Do they have kids? What time of day was it set up? Where was it set up? Can we look through it to see what’s going on and do some research on the area?

There’s a big difference between ‘ghostly’ and ‘ghost.’ The picture, more than likely, just shows a playing little girl whose parents don’t own a TV and have no idea their daughter has caused such a commotion. Of course, someone ought to recognize a little girl in a town with a population of only 1,835 - that is, if it is needed a little girl in the photograph.

Maybe she - or it - is still out there.
