Camping is a very popular activity during the summertime where families can relax and enjoy the outdoors. There is, however, one campground in California that is anything but relaxing as it is rumored to be quite haunted.
Many people who have visited California’s Lake Morena County Park & Campground have reported hearing, feeling, and seeing several unexplained things. Strange and creepy encounters at the location have been reported over the last 40 years. As a matter of fact, one ranger even left his job because of the terrifying things he witnessed in the woods.
The campground is apparently home to several ghosts that include an older man at the campsite; a young woman wearing a long white dress standing at the lake’s shoreline or in a wooded area that is located across from the campsites; and several spirits at the ranger stations.
One local legend involves a young girl named Millie who was tortured and killed by her mother. According to those who have seen her spirit, she has pale skin with light blond hair and is wearing a bloody apron. Additionally, if you see Millie, rumor has it that you may die.
Some campers have heard unexplained loud footsteps, specifically near their tents. Others have heard the voice of a female entity singing and laughing. Sudden cold spots accompanied by an uncomfortable feeling have been felt close to the boulders near some of the trees. Strange orbs of light have been spotted floating around the campground as well.
But probably the most terrifying encounters include levitating ghostly bodies that have been witnessed by both visitors and rangers. These levitating bodies are seen floating approximately 10 feet in the air. While they are normally seen at night, some witnesses have reported seeing them during the early part of the morning just after the sun rises.
As for why so many people have encountered levitating ghosts, it might have something to do with the devastating flood that hit the area back in 1916 and killed more than 50 people. Several of the flood victims were never found and were believed to have sunk in the Morena Reservoir. And there were reports of a lot more sightings in 2016 which may have had something to do with the 100-year anniversary of the deadly flood.
With so much paranormal activity associated with Lake Morena, those who dare to spend the night camping there may want to be extra cautious as a ghost might be lurking just outside of their tents.
