A roundup of mysterious, paranormal and strange news stories from the past week.
A joint hearing by subcommittees of the House Oversight Committee titled “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Exposing the Truth" was held on November 13, 2024, and four experts on UAPs/UFOs gave testimonies and answered questions. Here are some of the highlights (the entire hearing can be viewed here). Retired U.S. Navy rear admiral and former acting administrator of NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Timothy Gallaudet said he received confirmation in 2015 that UFOs were real when he was the U.S. Navy’s chief meteorologist and was informed of “multiple near-collisions in mid-air” with UAPs during a training mission; he accused the Pentagon’s Office of UFO Investigation and other government agencies of running an organized program to discredit reports and whistleblowers; he referenced satellite images of UAPs/UFOs captured in 2017 that were “disc-shaped” and he believed they were “non-human higher intelligence”. Luis Elizondo said “UAP are real. Advanced technologies not made by our Government — or any other government — are monitoring sensitive military installations around the globe. Furthermore, the U.S. is in possession of UAP technologies, as are some of our adversaries" and the government suppresses this information to “hide the fact that we are not alone in the cosmos". Journalist Michael Shellenberger said he is aware of "hundreds, maybe thousands" of very clear, high resolution" photos and videos of UAP. Mike Gold, a former NASA official, pushed for government agencies to "overcome the pernicious stigma that continues to impede scientific dialogue and open discussions" about UAPs. Rep. Nancy Mace got confirmation from Elizondo that the government conducted secret UAP crash retrieval programs and was able to identify and reverse-engineer alien craft. While much more was discussed, it was a proverbial ‘tip of the iceberg’ of UAP data and more hearings and disclosure are needed.
Those hoping that President-elect Donald Trump would open the X-files on UFO data once he takes office were pleased when Trump announced the nomination of John Ratcliffe for director of the CIA; the former Director of National Intelligence of the United States between May 2020 and January 2021 has pushed for greater transparency on UFOs/UAPs, saying the public has the right to know about these objects “unexplained phenomena” that “are not just detected by pilots, or by radar, or by some intelligence group”, noting that “there are actually quite a few more than have been made public”. Are shape-shifting aliens wishing they would have voted more in the election?
The number of three-fingered, possibly alien, Peruvian mummies increased by one just in time for a public hearing titled "Three-Digit Beings of Nazca" in the Congress of the Republic of Peru led by Peruvian Congressman Germán Tacuri, a member of the Bloque Magisterial party and the Culture Commission; journalist and UFO researcher Jois Mantilla revealed the discovery of the "alien humanoid" prior to the hearing and pre-announced that it and other mummies have had CT scans; at the meeting, Tacuri discussed the "tridactyl mummies" and announced a scientific investigation, saying: "If in the end these investigations turn out to be that they are not or that they are, science will tell us"; President of Congress Edgard Reymundo said that Peruvian scientists would be working with US scientists and that “This collaborative study means making every effort to put the facts straight, especially in the case of new discoveries". If the mummies were tallying the years these investigations have been promised, they would have run out of fingers to count on.
A South Carolina police offices reported to the Bigfoot Field Research Organization details about his recent Bigfoot sighting while hunting for deer 25 miles northwest of Columbia in the western part of the state; he told BFRO he heard a grunt before seeing a “"7 to 7.5 foot tall brown human-like shape through all the brush" with "long brown hair, ape-like face, and long arms" that locked eyes with him for around 30 seconds "before it turned and walked off"; yes, he could have shot the creature but said, "as much as I didn't want to admit it, I am convinced it was a Bigfoot" so he let it go; BFRO noted that the area has had other Bigfoot reports. Bigfoot shows up in South Carolina at about the same time as 43 monkeys escaped from a South Carolina lab – coincidence or an attempt to organize an uprising?
The legend of the Skinwalker has reached Argentina as evidenced by a video posted on TikTok by T Salguero Juega (@salguerojuega) who said he was taking a shot of his friends eating dinner when he panned to the window and saw a strange white figure outside the house staring at them in a disturbing manner; comments on the video leaned towards the figure being a ghost, a shadow or a prankster, but some thought it was a Skinwalker, which would be unusual since Argentina is so far away from Navajo country in the U.S. Is it time for a new show called “The Secret of Skinwalker Backyard”?
A structure thought to be proof of the existence of King Arthur has turned out to predate the mythical king as Tim Kinnaird, a geochronologist at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, announced that a rectangular structure on the Bodmin Moor in Cornwall known as King Arthur's Hall is not medieval but instead dates back between 5,000 and 5,500 years, predating Stonehenge as well as Arthur; the bank of earth and stone lined with 56 standing stones is now thought to have been built by an active Neolithic community and is not the location where Arthur and his knights fought in the sixth century against the rebel forces of Mordred at Camlann. Sounds like it’s time for an updated Round Table movie.
Bigfoot howls seem to be on the rise as evidenced by a recording sent to the Bigfoot Field Research Organization by a witness who captured the sound of whooping near the town of Monroe, Connecticut; the witness told BFRO that the "vocal pattern would be roughly 10 seconds of vocalization then stop" and was heard "four or five times" and the "voice had quite a bit of 'power' behind it and I could tell that it was carried over distance"; the witness said they were “well acquainted with coyotes, bobcats, and cougars and their vocalizations" and this was definitely something else that disturbed dogs in the area to start barking. We’re in trouble of Bigfoot gets cell phones and switches from whoops and howls to texts and emojis.
Relentless Loch Ness webcam watcher and monster hunter Eoin O'Faodhagain from County Donegal, Ireland, now says he is convinced that his latest sighting “could not be anything other than the Loch Ness Monster” and is “one for the record books” because the strange humps he saw measured 25 feet in length, making it a “whopper of a beast” whose humps “can be visibly seen rising out of the water as it moves at a steady pace – a large front hump, and a larger second hump behind”. O'Faodhagain is starting to sound a little desperate to be believed as his double-digit number of webcam ‘sightings’ don’t get as much press as those of witnesses on the shore or in a boat at Loch Ness – maybe it’s time he did a Go Fund Me and took a road trip.
Attorney and UFO whistleblower Danny Sheehan said in an interview that he believes aliens “are two billion years more technologically advanced than we are and they happen to have figured out how to come and go from our planet" so our attempts to stop them are future; moreover, Sheehan thinks other "strange phenomenons" such as telepathy, teleportation, astral travel, and remote viewing are abilities believed to be possessed by extraterrestrial beings which have also been attributed to religious figures like Jesus and Buddham which he suggests could make them “mutations of our human family and as that faculty is evolving, some humans are more fully evolved than others and that attracts attention” and piques the interest of " really intelligent thinking, careful people who are not ignorant”. The defense of aliens rests its case.
The Popocatépetl volcano in Mexico is highly active and in a populated area, so it is under constant watch by webcams which often pick up UFOs, as a recent video posted to the Webcams de México account shows; many people claim these balls or streaks of light are alien crafts entering or exiting the mouth of the volcano were they have a hidden base; skeptics say it could also be a drone, a bird, a bug, a camera anomaly or some other natural phenomena, but the sheer number of sightings and their similarities lend credence to the UFO believers. Which would keep you up at night – living next to a highly active volcano or living next to an extraterrestrial base?
Just when it seems like scientists and the general public have come to accept the idea that Earth’s Moon was formed when a Mars-sized object collided with our planet in its early years, a new study points out that this would put the Moon in an orbit around Earths equator, but it is actually more in line with the Sun, so a new theory published in The Planetary Science Journal by Penn State researchers Darren Williams and Michael Zugger proposes that Earth acquired its Moon through a process called binary-exchange capture which happens when a planet encounters two objects orbiting each other and its gravity separates them and captures one – a process believed to have been used by Neptune to captured its largest moon, Triton; this would explain Moon rocks show chemical similarities to Earth (meaning it originated in the same region of the solar system) and some differences (because it originally formed as part of a separate object). Can we stop fighting and join forces to go back to the Moon already?
The mystery of how ancient Egyptian funeral directors managed to place the mummy of Lady Chenet-aa inside a sealed sarcophagus with no visible opening has finally been solved by researchers at the Field Museum in Chicago who put the coffin in a CT scanner and saw that “there's a seam going down the back and some lacing” which indicated to them that the coffin was created first and then softened using humidity so it was flexible and could be molded around Chenet-aa’s mummy; the embalmers placed stuffing in her trachea so it wouldn't collapse when they stood her up, slit the coffin open and wrapped it around her, put a wood piece at her feet to keep her from moving, then laced it closed; the scan also showed that Chenet-aa lived in the Third Intermediate Period of Egypt, during the 22nd Dynasty and yet her mummy was “remarkable condition”. Do you still think these people weren’t smart enough to build the pyramids without extraterrestrial help?
In a recent interview, Matthew Szydagis, Associate Professor of Physics University of Albany Experimental Astro particle physics, explained how he calculated the statistical likelihood of “catastrophic” alien disclosure, where hard evidence of the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence is presented to the public without any filter; he started with the premise that there is some kind of non-human intelligence active in and around the Earth and that at least some reports of UFO crashes are genuine, then calculated how long before a crash occurs which the military-industrial complex can’t clean it up and cover it up before it is discovered and recorded by “people carrying around smartphones with high-quality cameras”; he determined that we will see hard, undeniable evidence of extraterrestrial activity “rather soon” and no later than 2060; however, he doesn’t think the announcement will be catastrophic, and that religion and politics and governments will not fall apart. Is he underestimating the need for cable news to make a buck?
From the ‘Strange Security Camera Videos’ file comes one from the city of Baggoc, Caoayan, in the Philippines showing what looks like a cyclist riding down a road until they vanish into thin air before exiting the range of the camera; Dave Clifford uploaded it and said, "we've had our cameras for three years and we've never encountered footage like this before"’ he also noted that the spot where the cyclist vanished "has a bad reputation as a few people have died there" and that the incident happened on November 1 or All Saints Day or the Day of the Dead when many cultures, including in the Philippines, pay homage to their dead relatives, leading some commenters to believe the cyclist was a ghostly accident victim while skeptics blamed webcam anomalies or a hoax. If only we could get other people to disappear this easily.
In celebrity paranormal news, supermodel Claudia Schiffer revealed that her 14-bedroom Suffolk mansion, which was built in 1574, is haunted by what she calls “friendly” ghosts – an ironic comment since he son’s name is Caspar; she claims “We hear creaking noises and strange things happen sometimes, like the music comes on” so she “had a medium go around, and she told us that actually all the ghosts in the house are lovely. No one needs to be scared. We welcome all the ghosts, basically”. If only we felt the same way about humans before they became ghosts.
“If you build it, they will come” is the famous quote from the movie, “Field of Dreams” but a family in Ashland County, Ohio, is asking people to stop coming to the ‘Stargate’ they built 15 years ago after being inspired by another movie, “Stargate”, the "Stargate SG-1" TV series and the rest of the programs in the Stargate franchise; the family used a plastic swimming pool to mold the interior portion of the ring and steel rebar to hold the concrete, then added star symbols to the 50,000-pound ring; the final touch was a dial-home device to the portal for choosing a destination; while they don’t say if they’ve used the Stargate, they’ve tried to keep it a secret, although doing a recent interview with the local newspaper probably put an end to that for good. With the way things are going, it’s time for a portal with the motto: “If you build it, maybe they will leave”.
While most of the attention these days is on convincing the government to reveal its files on investigations into UFOs and aliens, Tracy Schandler Walder, a former FBI special agent and ex-CIA officer reminds us in a recent interview that there are also files on government investigations of Bigfoot; she says, “I want to talk about the FBI and their involvement in this. I think people may not know that back in the '70s, the FBI actually tested fur that a hunter provided. That hunter believed it was from Sasquatch or Bigfoot, they legitimately tested it and ran it through their forensic labs and it came back as being a species of deer. But it's interesting that the FBI actually took it on. It kind of played into the conspiracy theories and legitimacy surrounding it.” Would someone who reveals secret files on Bigfoot be a whistleblower or a howl shouter?
The Russian biotech laboratory Neiry and scientists from the Institute of Artificial Intelligence at Moscow State University announced they took a rat named Pythia (the ancient oracle who revealed messages from the Greek god Apollo) and connected it to AI; they then verbally asked Pythia questions and the AI gave her the correct “yes or no” answer via electrical stimulation to her brain which gave her a stomach sensation for ‘no’ and a heart sensation for ‘yes’; while the [ress release only showed Pythia answering questions like "Are you a rat?" (she pressed the ‘yes’ key) and “Is two times two five?" (she pressed the "No" key), they claim the rat can answer "yes" or "no" to any questions on physics, history, mathematics, quasars, myelin sheaths, the Python language, and more. Which will happen first: a movie titled ‘Planet of the Rats’ or a headline?
