A roundup of mysterious, paranormal and strange news stories from the past week.
The Chupacabra has outgrown its origin story as a goat-sucking reptilian cryptid in Puerto Rico to expand around the world wherever dead livestock re found, but none of these match the strange variation known as the Capacabra, which was found in a mummified form in 2018 during a renovation of a building at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan; the small cat-sized creature has human-like hands with five clawed fingers each, feline-ish nose and ears, and a tail all covered with a thin skin; the name comes from the university's Campus Archaeology Program (CAP) and a PhD student in the field of forensic anthropology, Jerielle Cartales, is leading an investigation to identify the creature; Cartales took X-ray images and skeletal examinations and says “there's about a 75% chance that this is a raccoon" and it can’t predate 1889, which is the year the building was erected; her best guess is it may have entered the building through an air duct, got trapped, and become mummified. Did anyone check to see if the University of Michigan lost a wolverine mascot?
The long-rumored so-called Nazi gold train - believed to have been filled with gold and treasures from Russia’s Amber Room and other valuables and possibly chemicals stolen by the Nazis and hidden for safekeeping until after World War II – is getting attention again with the announcement by Polish officials that the Lost and Found Office of the City Office in Wałbrzych has received a detailed letter from a man claiming to have located the train; representatives of Poland’s Crisis Management Office and the Monument Conservator met with the unnamed man, whose letter said in part that “three railway (freight) wagons from the period of World War II, hidden in a camouflaged tunnel. Each wagon is approximately 12 meters long, four meters wide and four meters high and the wagons are hidden behind a closed, sliding steel gate at the entrance to the tunnel;" the letter referenced four attachments detailing a "Table with geodetic data", "Terrain profile, including the tunnel layout", "Map with track simulation and tunnel course" and "Account of a witness (mentioned by name and surname) who lived in Wałbrzych during the war;" the officials released a report stating: “The author of this letter informs us that, to his knowledge, he has located both the tunnel and 3 carriages and would like to inform us about it. However, it was unclear from the letter whether he intends to take further steps. There is nothing more we as a city can do at this point - apart from supporting;” past searches for the train based on hearsay, diaries, maps and other alleged evidence had been unsuccessful. Are they ‘unsuccessful’ because the train doesn’t exist or because they can’t decide who gets the treasures?
Scientists from the U.S. California research collective Noah’s Ark Scans announced they are working with local universities in Turkey to develop a preservation plan for the first controlled excavation of the Durupınar Site on Mount Ararat’s southern side where many believe the biblical Noah’s Ark may be buried; the researchers have conducted ground-penetrating radar scans which appear to show “a rectangular structure” lying several meters below the surface under a flat, oval hill some 160 meter in length, which approximates the size and shape of the biblical boat; the ground-penetrating radar also shows what appears to be a 13-foot tunnel running through the center of the formation and three layers which could be the ark’s three decks; through an excavation effort, the researchers hope to find “the chemical imprint, pieces of wood and in the ground, the shape of a hall” which would help prove that this is indeed the biblical ark. It’s about time a physical inspection will take place, but skeptics and believers will continue to argue while Leonardo DiCaprio plots a new movie.
You know a UFO sighting is big when its name enters the general lexicon, so it is no surprise the fine folks of Warminster, England, are planning to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Warminster Thing – a collection of strange things that happened in this small town near Stonehenge for decades after the night of Christmas 1964 when Mildred Head heard “strange sounds lashing at [the] roof” that sounded like giant hailstones, and a humming sound that grew louder before fading to “a faint whisper” but saw nothing when she went outside; that same night, soldiers at the nearby Knook Camp army base heard what sounded like “a huge chimney stack from the main block ... ripped from the rooftop, then scattered ... across the whole camp” and Roger Rump heard what he thought was “the 5000 tiles on our roof being ripped off and then put back on again with an enormous clatter.;” more than 30 people reported mysterious noises that Christmas morning; in June, residents of Warminster began seeing UFOs and the media dubbed them and the noises the ‘Warminster Thing’ but whatever they were, they haven’t been explained 60 years later, so on Sunday August 24th, 2025, a conference will be held at The Athenaeum to discuss all of the events of the past six decades, speakers, researchers, enthusiasts and music – the C E IV alternative / ambient rock band whose members share a common interest in music and the UFO and alien phenomena. Watch out, Roswell – this sounds like fun!
Dani Henderson, president of the Galactic Informers Spiritual Connection (GSIC) whose website promises to “prove the existence of our off-world ET brothers and sisters”, issued a video where she said “I’m guaranteeing at least two real spacecraft” would fly over Eastbourne beach in East Sussex, England, on May 10, 2025, at 8 pm; hundreds of people showed up, but nothing happened at 8 ppm; however, at about 9.30 pm some bright flashing objects moved across the sky; while skeptics said that they could be satellites or planes, the GSIC website posted videos and photographs and called them “the flyover of extraterrestrial spacecrafts above the English Channel as well as a triangular Tr3B and a 'cigar-shaped' long craft”; testimonials from people in attendance, many of whom had just attended a conference hosted by GSIC, agreed it was a spectacle, although there were no landings or appearances by extraterrestrials. We’ll get suspicious when the extraterrestrials start selling the tickets and running the food trucks.
In a new report from the Sol Foundation, a center for UAP research, retired Colonel and current aerospace executive Karl E. Nell says that the U.S government and certain private companies possess materials and technology that may not be of human origin, were alleged recovered in UFO incidents, and are being studied without civilian or legislative oversight; he supports passing the Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Disclosure Act, which proposes creating an independent civilian Review Board with unrestricted access to all classified information about UAPs, the authorization to assess the defense and national security issues raised by the objects, and much more, with the executive branch having the ability to invoke eminent domain to obtain the objects; the report proposes a "controlled disclosure plan" that would prepare public policies to address potential public impacts, including setting international diplomatic strategies to address UAP disclosure as a shared global project. Are we hindering disclosure with too many meetings and plans and not enough real action?
Danny Pusher of Fort Apache, Arizona, says he “heard howling/crying the other day at 5 AM “ so he set up a trail cam; he posted on Facebook a video of what showed up days later at 2:22 AM, which he described as a “skinwalker/bigfoot/lurker/someone walking the drainage/wash alone at 2:22 AM with no light” and asked for help identifying it; he also posted daytime photos and said “This is what it walked through at 2:22 AM. The angle of the trail cam made this thing bigger and made me look small”; while no one could identify the being, a number of commenters had similar experiences, including a few in the neighborhood. It was smart to take the daytime photo – remember to look for footprints, broken branches, Bigfoot hair, skinwalker fur and other signs if this happens to you.
If you buy into the conspiracy theory that the Loch Ness monster is actually a creature from another planet living in a spot that resembles home, then you’ll be interested in a new project in the Scottish Highlands where a team of space scientists from the University of St. Andrews rocks billions of years old that strongly resemble the surface of Mars – they are so similar, the researchers have teamed up with the European Space Agency’s ExoMars program to help test a new robot rover that will be sent to Mars to hunt for extraterrestrial life forms and to test Martian rocks for biological evidence of past life; according to Dr. Claire Cousins of the University of St Andrews the area around Lower Diabaig, a fishing port in the north-west Highlands near Loch Torridon and about 90 miles from Loch Ness, is a rare geology ideally suited for a pseudo Mars because “The rocks haven't metamorphosed right” so “They haven't been cooked and squeezed and crushed under mountain belts” which means ““They have been beautifully preserved - a slice of time”. If Martian Nessie gets homesick, the spot is accessible over land or around the coast, making more spots for monster sightings and souvenir shops.
The infamous Tic Tac UFOs, which were aptly described by fight pilots assigned to the USS Nimitz where they followed and recorded these cylindrical candy-like UAPs, have never been identified, so a recent revelation by an anonymous whistleblower, who claims to have been an electrical engineer with nearly 40 years of experience in classified projects, of unreleased documents related to the secret AAWSAP (Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program) and BAASS (Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies) programs, caused many to sit up and take notice because the person claimed that the Tic-Tac UFOs are actually human technology made by reverse engineering of alien spacecraft; as proof, the whistleblower posted on Reddit published copies of reports that are similar to previously leaked and verified documents; experts say the documents are so similar that they could have been printed on the same printer, giving the whistleblower more credibility; as final proof, he says he’s seen these Tic Tac UFOs because “I personally worked on certain aspects of it”. The makers of Tic Tacs are undoubtedly hoping to get a few more years of marketing benefits from this.
Bigfoot may not have a good photographer, but he must have a great public relations advisor in Idaho where the city officials of Pocatello announced the arrival of "Bigfoot Pocatello" who “has been hiding in the mountains and forests for so long, but ever since Pocatello has received him with open arms, he is making strides into the public eye" by appearing in social media posts (@BigfootPoky) and at civic events all around Pocatello and East Idaho; the state is a popular location for Bigfoot sightings, as the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization has 93 reports of encounters in Idaho, putting the state fourth in the ranking of most Bigfoot sightings per capita. It’s all fun until someone disappears and there’s still a guy in a bad costume waving a blurred hand to the camera.
A bus mysteriously appeared overnight at a shopping mall in Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe, and strange things began happening that have locals convinced it may be haunted; some witnesses say the abandoned bus appears to "come alive" every morning and evening at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. when the front headlights turn on and off by themselves; others swear to have heard playing inside the empty bus, although some think they’ve seen ghosts sitting in seats and a conductor shouting for passengers to board; the current owner says the lights are solar powered and switch on when the sun comes up, and the ghosts are local workers who eat their lunch in the bus, but believers say the bus’s original owner reportedly died after being run over while working on its underside and now his spirit haunts the abandoned vehicle. Ride a real bus with real passengers in a major city and you’ll see things far scarier than bus ghosts.
The religious belief of incorruptibility, where the corpse of a holy person does not decompose, was placed on display recently when a famous example - Teresa of Ávila (also called St. Terese of Jesus)., who died in 1582 but whose body has never decomposed – was put on display in the Basilica of the Annunciation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Alba de Tormes, Salamanca, Spain; researchers are being allowed to study the mummified body to determine why it has not deteriorated; experts compared photos taken in 1914, the last time the body was exhumed, and now but say that a comparison is difficult because the older ones are in black-and-white; the body has parts missing (heart, arm, tooth, hand) which were stolen as relics – that plus her mummified appearance has many skeptics doubting her incorruptible and are waiting for scientific proof. Loos like a ‘get to know your new job’ project for the new Pope Leo XIV.
Budget and future funding cuts at NASA are threatening missions to go to Mars and retrieve rock and soil samples from rovers, but Astrobiologist Barry DiGregorio, founding director of the International Committee Against Mars Sample Return (ICAMSR), thinks NASA already has evidence of alien life on Mars in the form of images taken by the Perseverance rover in 2020 which show signs of past “worm-like” aliens; in a recent interview, DiGregorio describes them as “wormy things, maybe fish, possibly jellyfish, really ancient type things that moved around” which died out when “the climate on Mars changed and the atmosphere changed”, causing almost all of its water to be absorbed into the soil or evaporate due to solar wind; DiGregorio also says that NASA is covering this up because these microbes could be dangerous to astronauts and doesn’t want the public to know the danger and push to cancel the manned missions or those bringing potentially contaminated soil back. Not surprisingly, there are still many who support letting Elon Musk go there.
From the ‘Mysterious Medical Maladies’ file comes the story of Aidan McManus, an Australian man whose body experiences cold when he touches something hot, and hot when he touches anything cold; after years of tests, biopsies and futile therapies and recommendations, a doctor has finally diagnosed it as axonal peripheral neuropathy, a nerve disorder which affects how nerve cells transmit signals throughout the body; however, it can’t be cured and the condition puts him in very dangerous situations, but Australia’s National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) has rejected his request for support, claiming that he had not “examined all possible treatment options”. How can anyone live in Australia without the ability to taste a cold beer?
There have always been mechanical devices that are said to mimic the ability of psychics and seers, but they haven’t put them out of business yet, and a woman’s experience with a psychic ChatGPT that allegedly reads coffee grounds may indicate that AI won’t be replacing them either; a woman in Greece uploaded photos of the coffee grounds left in her cup and her husband’s and asked ChatGPT to do a tasseography reading on them; the chatbot returned with the verdict than the grounds showed the husband was having an affair with another woman, so she filed for divorce without even accusing him face-to-face; his lawyer advised to fight it the claims made by an AI chatbot have no legal standing, and his client was innocent until proven guilty; tasseography practitioners say that reading coffee involves more than the grounds – the foam and the saucer are also analyzed, something the ChatGPT psychic didn’t do. Despite that, many married men are switching to milk.
