Doorbell Cam Alien, Headless Ghosts, Proof of Moses, Bigfoot Videos and More Mysterious News Briefly

A roundup of mysterious, paranormal and strange news stories from the past week.

Even haunted islands are loved as evidenced by the outpouring support for the haunted island of Poveglia between Venice and Lido in the Venetian Lagoon of northern Italy where in 421 CE it served as a Roman military base; however, its ghosts are more likely from when it was used to house victims of the bubonic plague in the 18th century; in the 1930s, a doctor who performed primitive lobotomies on patients jumped from the bell tower after saying he had been driven mad by ghosts of bubonic plague victims, causing the sound of the bell to be heard years after it was removed; when they heard the island could be purchased by a developer and made into a tourist attraction, a group of 4,500 Venetians formed Poveglia perTutti (Poveglia for Everyone) and raised $539,000 to buy the lease and keep the island uninhabited except for the ghosts. It’s pretty bad when people hate tourists more than ghosts.

The Rocky Mountain Sasquatch Organization posts Bigfoot videos from other mountains too and the latest is an interesting one from the Eastern Sieras submitted by a man named Bill who says he shot it while walking his dogs on Coyote Ridge in California; he was recording the dogs playing in the snow and, like many other witnesses, only noticed the unusual movement in the trees when he reviewed the video at home and saw one of the dogs looking at something – an upright hairy creature that appears to be running rather than walking through the trees; the head is somewhat pointy and apelike but the distance is too far to make any accurate identification; the best supporting evidence is the barking dog who was not available for further comments. When in doubt, dog knows best.

The recent massive earthquake in far eastern Russia and the tsunami it spawned has generated the usual Monday morning prognosticators claiming to have forecast it, starting with Ryo Tatsuki, a Japanese psychic who has been compared to the blind Bulgarian mystic Baba Vanga; Tatsuki ; in 2024, Tatsuki published ‘The Future I Saw: Ryo Tatsuki and the Manga Prophecies That Shook the World: Japan’s Modern-Day Baba Vanga Who Predicted Earthquakes, Pandemics, and 2025’ in which she predicted the seas around southern Japan would "boil" on July 5, 2025 – ‘close enough for believers’ prediction of the recent earthquake and tsunami from a psychic who claims to also have forecast COVID and the Kobe earthquake; meanwhile, Hawaiians are pointing to the reappearance of 26 petroglyphs, dating back to between 1000 and 1400 CE, along the shoreline of Pōkaʻī Bay in Waianae a few days before the events; native Hawaiians say it’s a warning from their ancestors about environmental changes and oncoming disasters caused by climate change.

A recent interview with Richard Banduric, the CEO of Field Propulsion Technologies and former propulsion engineer for both NASA and Lockheed Martin, has resurfaced because of new interest in his allegations that the US government and private research groups joined in covert operations to study and reverse engineer advanced materials allegedly recovered from unidentified flying objects; most interesting is his allegation that there are trillions of invisible extraterrestrial devices hidden around the world that are hundreds of years ahead of our technology, including A “sliver of metal” he saw that could reconfigure and “cloak itself and try to blend into the environment”, an ability that convinced him that “it was extraterrestrial”; Banduric claimed aliens are using these devices as a way of “manipulating our species”; he claimed the devices could self-destruct and there was no way to replicate them; however, he offered no evidence to support his claims. Hey aliens – isn’t trillions of cloaked devices a bit excessive?

The latest advertisement for better doorbell cams comes from Compton, California, where Jessica Ortiz looked at her doorbell cam video after a 1 AM notification and saw what could have been a grey alien walking briskly past her porch; her son agreed, saying, “Mom, it's an alien. Call the police” but Ortiz didn’t want to “sound crazy” to the police – so she posted the video on social media instead and asked for help; while ‘alien’ is the clear favorite, some comments pointed to a person wearing a hat or a person in black carrying a light-colored bag that looked like a giant head on the inferior black-and-white doorbell camera; her aunt who lives next door says she heard loud bangs around the time the camera was triggered; Ortiz is sticking with her belief it was an ET because ““I think God is too creative for us to be the only ones with life”. If aliens keep ignoring them, maybe we’re the only ones with doorbell cams.

The Loch Ness Centre posted its latest Loch Ness monster sighting on social media at the end of July with the puzzling comment: “Summer has begun – and so have the sightings!”; it’s mid-summer (sighting was July 16) and there have been a few sightings already in 2025, but this one is unusual in that it appears to show a head on a long neck rising out of the choppy waters; a visitor named Livia shot the video in front of Urquhart Castle; while it looks like a head, Nagina Ishaq, general manager at The Loch Ness Centre, said it could be a seal or a tree caught in the castle’s outlet pipe. We have apps that can identify birds, animals and plants – someone needs to get working on a Nessie ID app.

Hey Siri - is this the Loch Ness monster?

Those convinced that the recent videos of Tic Tac UFOs moving seamlessly and quickly from air to water and back (transmedium) means that they’re extraterrestrial or super-high-technology need to watch the video made by students at Aalborg University in Denmark of a drone they 3-D printed that seamlessly travels from the air to underwater and back out again changing positions and angles as it travels; the students developed the hybrid drone for a bachelor's thesis in applied industrial electronics by using variable pitch propellers and a watertight body. This should get the students an A and admission to the graduate school at the University of Alpha Centauri.

We know that humans and Neanderthals lived together and loved together, so it should come as no surprise that they died together, and now we have proof in the form of 100,000-year-old burial site in Israel that contains the remains of both Homo sapiens and Neanderthals; archeologists digging in the Tinshemet Cave found skeletons and ritual burial objects which should confirm that this is the potentially the oldest known gravesite, but the discovery of Neanderthal-like hominin remains indicates “consolidation of a uniform behavioral set” due to intensified inter-population interactions and the mixing of humans and Neanderthals; the results are published in Nature Human Behavior and describe the two full skeletons, three skulls and some bones and teeth found in fetal burial positions; the researchers believe the humans came from the African continent while the Neanderthals came from Europe and the two groups met for the first time in the Levant during the Middle Paleolithic period. Homo sapiens and Neanderthals managed to get along in the Levant – maybe this discovery can make it happen again.

David Whittaker, the owner of the world-famous (and later infamous) Cottingley Fairies photographs says he was "amazed" to see them sell for £2,600 ($3,454) at the John Taylors auction house recently; Whittaker is the son of Mary Anderson, the best friend of Frances Griffiths, who, with her friend Elsie Wright, claimed they took the photos of fairies surrounding them between 1917 and 1920 in a garden in Cottingley, a village in Bradford, England; Frances gave Anderson a set of the photos while they were in school and Whittaker says his mother "spent her life believing in fairies" but wanted to throw them out when Elsie confessed in 1983 that they were fake and made out of paper cut-outs and hatpins; Sherlock Holmes author Arthur Conan Doyle believed they were authentic, as did many other experts; despite them being fakes, the auction house said the winning bid had "almost doubled pre-sale expectations" and the photos are now in the hands of a London collector. Today, more people know about the Cottingley Fairies than know what a hatpin is.

The game show ‘Let’s Make a Deal’ lets contestants open any of its three doors, but archaeologists couldn’t open one 15-foot pink door in the 4,400-year-old ancient Egyptian tomb of a prince named Userefre because it was a ‘door to the afterlife’ – a false door which symbolized the portal only the soul of the dead could travel through to the netherworld; the prince, also known as Prince Waser-If-Re, was the son of King Userkaf, the founder of Egypt's Fifth dynasty; pink and red granite was rare and that plus the massive height of the false door were not an indication of Prince Userfre’s height but his status in the kingdom; the researchers, led by  Dr. Zahi Hawass, former Minister of Antiquities, won’t know for sure until they find his burial chamber. If given the choice of one of three giant pink doors, take the box instead.

Biblical archeologists are debating the significance of a 3,800-year-old Proto-Sinaitic inscription found at Serabit el-Khadim in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula etched into a rock face near the so-called Sinai 357 in Mine L after researcher Michael Bar-Ron claimed it reads 'zot m'Moshe,' which is Hebrew for 'This is from Moses', making it proof of the existence of the biblical figure Moses;  Bar-Ron has spent eight years analyzing high-resolution images and 3D scans of the inscription and other researchers note that Proto-Sinaitic is the earliest known alphabet and its characters are extremely difficult to decipher; the ancient turquoise mine dates to the reign of Pharaoh Amenemhat III, who some scholars believe weas the Moses-chasing pharaoh mentioned in the Book of Exodus; that theory is supported by other inscriptions containing references to slavery, overseers, a violent purge and workers fleeing from the site; despite that, Dr. Thomas Schneider, Egyptologist and professor at the University of British Columbia, said the claims are completely unproven and misleading and warns that “arbitrary” identifications of letters can distort ancient history. Keep looking – maybe there’s an inscription on how to get rid of locusts.

Crop circles are associated with England, but Franz Zerhoch grows wheat in Frieding, Germany, where he was notified by a balloonist that there was a precise starred crop circle in his wheat field; that was enough advanced notice for Zerhoch to harvest his wheat before the field was overrun with crop circle fans; Zerhoch's father, Georg, also had a crop circle experience 13 years ago but he only found out when his field was already full of fans and had to call the police to get them out; Zerhoch estimated the circle covered about half a hectare of the 12.6-hectare field, which yielded “about five tons of wheat" so he was glad to get it harvested; despite that, he met two women walking in the mowed field who told him “you could feel the energy" anyway. That may be true, but you can’t sell photos and videos of the energy.

Abandoned schools are notorious for housing ghosts, but when open schools are rumored to be haunted, the result is often general panic and mass hysteria, as was the case recently at the Moharcherra high school in Teliamura, a town in the Indian state of Tripura; local media reports that one student went to the rest room and encountered “headless human figure” which caused him to flee back to the classroom to warn the others - unfortunately, he passed out on the way; while teachers tried to revive him, three girls went to the ladies rest room and saw the same headless apparition, which caused them to run out and fall down; all four are OK but the incident prompted others to come forward with similar stories, with some leading to deaths; teachers  and parents are demanding that the rest room structure be torn down; a local psychiatrist dismissed the sightings of ghosts and said the students already had a fear in their minds and saw “a reflection of their own thoughts in the strange headless figure”. If this were the U.S., the school would be overrun with lawyers, counselors and exorcists.

After seeing this in the restroom, would you still need to go?

The Bigfoot Research Organization shared a report and video from Washington state made by two men who saw a Bigfoot while camping along the Wenatchee Rive near Plain, Washington; using binoculars, they reportedly saw “a creature standing there on two legs, damn near half the height of the tree so I’d guess 8-10 ft tall standing there. Had very dark reddish-brown hair that covered its whole body except its face and hands. Was super thick and wide, not just tall. It’s face looked very ape like with its features, big mouth poking out big ol nose kinda flat though at same time just very monkey ape like”; they watched it move, and then the guy with the binoculars saw its face as it “looked over at river scanned up river a bit, looked straight up at us on top of the cliff and it ducked down for about 15 seconds then sprinted off into the woods on two legs upright”; the men didn’t have a phone with them to take photos. Washington needs to pass a mandatory ‘Carry your fully-charged phone everywhere’ law.

Supporters of UFO disclosure in the U.S. may be pleased to learn that the new Undersecretary of the Air Force is a UFO witness and may be open to more transparency and support of pilots reporting encounters; Matthew Lohmeier served in both the United States Air Force and the United States Space Force as a pilot on the T-38 trainer jet and the F-15C Eagle, and is one of the few pilots to have publicly admitted he witnessed a UFO, resulting in his being relieved of his command; he claims in a recent interview to have seen a ball of light in the Tucson Mountains of Arizona and said in a recent interview he believes it was not ball lighting but something living like  plasma body and also believes “in many of the eyewitness accounts of extraterrestrial, angelic, or demonic visitors who have shown up, interacted with men and women”

Chilean media reports that for the first time in the history of that country and possibly all of Latin America, an unidentified luminous phenomenon was captured on video as part of a state-run scientific project; the incident occurred in early 2025, north of Punta Arenas in the provinces of Magallanes and Tierra del Fuego on a project whose purpose was to assesses the health of ecosystems in areas of high environmental importance; during that time, a motion-detection camera set up to record native mammals instead recorded brief images of lights with rapid, unexplained movements; in an interview, biologist Alejandro Kusch confirmed the incident and said the area was far away from roads and other humans; he stated that “the camera sensor is activated and takes three photos in one second. And in that second, these lights, which seemed distant unless they were very small, move closer until they are in front of the lens, blinding the camera in what appears to be a downward motion. We have no explanation"; the images were sent to SEFAA (Section for the Study of Anomalous Phenomena), a department of the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) responsible for investigating this type of incident in Chilean airspace for years. Credible witnesses, recorded images, government investigation – what could possibly go wrong?

The mystery of the Antikythera mechanism, a 2,000-year-old device found on a first century BCE shipwreck off the coast of the Greek island of Antikythera that was discovered n 1902, just got deeper as the ship it was found oud on got shallower – divers recently recovered boards from the shipwreck and researchers comparing them to others retrieved in the 1970s and determined they are so different that they only could have come from different boats; that means there are probably two shipwrecks at that exact spot; according to Lorenz Baumer of the University of Geneva in Switzerland who directed this year’s expedition, said: “The thickness of the planks found by Cousteau is around 10 centimeters, the ones we have measure around five - that’s quite a difference. Now we have to find an explanation – is it another part of the ship? It’s possible that they've been using thinner planks in upper parts, but that’s pure speculation for now. Or is it – and for me this could be a possibility – a skiff. You see many of those merchant ships had smaller boats with them”; this is indeed a possibility a technical drawing of two vessels - one towing the other - was found in Pompeii, inside the House of the Ship Europa”. It’s too bad they didn’t also carry a spare Antikythera mechanism.

Interstellar object 3I/ATLAS is still months away from its closest approach to earth in November 2025, but that hasn’t stopped dueling theories about the possibility of it being an alien spaceship, and one of those theorists also believes the Juno spacecraft currently orbiting Jupiter could be redirected to intercept 3I/ATLAS and solve the riddle; a non-peer-reviewed paper published by Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb and two others proposes that the interstellar object could be "possibly hostile" extraterrestrial technology in disguise based on its unusual trajectory, a claim disputed by many other space experts such as Samantha Lawler, an astronomer at the University of Regina in Canada who specializes in solar system dynamics, who says: "All evidence points to this being an ordinary comet that was ejected from another solar system, just as countless billions of comets have been ejected from our own solar system"; meanwhile, Loeb supports the claim made in another non-peer-reviewed paper that “applying a thrust of 2.675 kilometers per second on September 14, 2025 can bring the Juno spacecraft from its orbit around Jupiter to intercept the path of 3I/ATLAS” and use its “near- infrared spectrometer, magnetometer, microwave radiometer, gravity science instrument, energetic particle detector, radio and plasma wave sensor, UV spectrograph and visible light camera/telescope” to “probe the nature of 3I/ATLAS from a close distance”. What are we – we mean you, NASA - waiting for?

Why didn't anyone think of this before?
