Episode 602 – Mysterious Universe

We review Linda Moulton Howe’s recent presentation in Sydney on “ETs, Time Travellers and Self Activating Machines” but not before discussing the revelations of false credentials and lies of popular UFO researcher, Philip Imbrogno.

The damage dealt from Imbrogno’s alleged deception could be a major setback for the credibilty of the UFO research field, but is anyone paying attention?

Show notes, music, and drones after the jump.

OH my GAUD! The Greeks and Arabs were aliens??? That would mean we’re ALL aliens then. HOLY CRAP BatLinda that would also mean that we came here in spaceships, colonized and set up camp here millions of years ago. Why this just shines a whole new LIGHT on things. Since UFOs don’t seem to want to land here maybe we were a penis colony … a penal colony and they’re afraid of us! Well, I can only draw one conclusion …

… once a sponge you become a bigger sponge for every viral piece of crap out there.

  • 8×10 Monk

After looking at those pics of the drones I think it’s not CG at all. It looks like the complex Sony spud wrench the repair man used to take apart my Blu-ray player. Either that or a Pitbull’s dog collar.

  • 8×10 Monk

I’m sure you’ve all seen this by now. The guy getting hit by lightning twice video. Whether it’s real or not it still looks nasty …

Typed in ‘Phil Imbrogno’ onto anagram server and got some interesting results:

good to see that you reported on Philip Imbrogno, good and sad really. It is a big smack to the face of the ufo community.

  • Spookchild

Oh wow, you guys played my phone message! I was a little nervous; I realized that was a bit too close to public speaking for my tastes as I was doing it. Thanks for the kind words.

The pants thing had me laughing so much! You two are so funny together.

If you haven’t heard it yet, check out episode 37 of Linda Howe’s “Earthfiles” podcast:

    http://www.earthfiles333.com/earthfiles/EarthfilesPodcast/Episode37.html

She interviews a supposed witness to one of the “dragonfly drones.”  Guy sounds like such an obvious troll, just listen to his description.  Total drama.

In case you didn’t catch my compliment on the other post, Ben, I just wanted to say – you have a remarkable story telling voice. I always get drawn in the moment you begin to narrate these paranormal stories or encounters. Rather soothing, you should make Samuel Jackson run for his money haha. Loving the shows and I’ll continue to follow along for time to come. I’m very close to getting plus – - – soon…soon.

Regarding the crop circles and techno paper being ‘activated’. It sounds like Linda Moulten Howe is suggesting that aliens have a very advanced version of Nintendo’s Scribblenoughts.

It’s amusing to watch, but yeah, totally unbelieveable.  All those high trees around him and he’s getting hit at ground level?  Yeah right.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HUMQOUTI6UK6LL7GAZY3PWL4VM James

Re. Linda, I agree, sounds very disappointing from what you were saying.  Maybe you could get her on the show to explain herself and your concerns.  But it sounds like she’s hooked line and sinker on that story.  Might not end well.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HUMQOUTI6UK6LL7GAZY3PWL4VM James

Re. Phil Imbrogno degree.  It sounds like it was investigated satisfactorily to me (by them going to the registrar).  While those automated systems are used to provide info on who went to the college (some businesses use them to vet job applicants), they can’t be used as a sole source.

In my case, the college I went to happened to have the year AFTER I graduated as the oldest year in the automated system.  So when the HR of my current job checked on my credentials, the automated system said I didn’t attend, and they were going to deny me the job.  Fortunately they had subsequently followed up with the registrar and gotten the details, so I didn’t have to go hit them over the head with my degree. :)

Hey — great show! I’ve listened to Linda’s weave these tales for years and have learned to take them with handfuls of salt … but I think she’s finally really losing it. I would love to believe all of her claims, but so far as I have been able to suss out, she has yet to prove anything. Love it when you guys get animated about a subject.

It’s good that you guys are asking questions about Linda Moulton-Howe. As ever, you’ll draw your conclusions in your own time and that’s a good thing. With the podcast being so popular, your thoughts kind of take listeners with you and they can also make up their own minds.

6 seasons in and you’ve avoided becoming ego-monsters or the final word on anything. That might not sound like a big compliment, but it is.

  • 8×10 Monk

Yeah, either the guy’s carrying a lot of change in his pockets and wearing metal pants or the trees are wearing rubber roots.

  • Twosipp

I would love the Mysterious universe on telivision,  maybe on sbs or public broadcasting where you guys can have the show exactly how you like it. You guys have so much material and your show will not be like the tacky unexplained and reality telivision shows.

Oh no I can’t believe it’s the drones again, haha! **Mini CGI lecture warning**: The expert who suggested that they weren’t CGI because there was colour fringing… clearly doesn’t know about modern day CGI production. Most likely in 2007 these kind of effects were just done in Photoshop (there are free filters specifically designed for this! And many free tutorials!), whether intentionally or it just occured as a result of manipulation or JPEG artefacting. These days however, colour fringing in CG (usually called ‘chromatic aberration’) has literally gone the way of the lens flare or bullet time effect, tons of semi-pro/advanced hobbyists use it in their work because it looks cool. They usually overdo it, but it’s not hard to use it correctly. Normally it’s a filter or process applied after you’ve rendered your image, however it has gone so mainstream now that rendering softwares are coming with that feature built in, so you just tick the checkbox for it! Not only that… but these days you can render your CGI scene and pick a camera model (say, Canon 5D MKII or a Kodak one etc) and it will use the same colour response algorithms etc that the specified camera would have used if it had actually photographed your CGI world! This isn’t top level stuff either (though back then it would have been). I work in CGI and I really love/hate to say it, you can pretty much do anything you want with it, it’s just up to the individual or group to put the effort in.

This isn’t the first time Linda has been taken for a ride. She worked on a documentary in the late 80s for HBO on cattle mutilations, during which she got an interview with the military, where they took her into a room and showed her a document that claimed that Jesus was installed by aliens (groan). She still believes the veracity of the document to this day. A very well known disinformation guy named Richard Doty was the one who gave Linda the document.

    http://www.etfriends.com/conference/addinfo/howe.html

He can be heard explaining his scheme/con on a Coast to Coast interview on Feb 27 2005.

There’s also some conflicting / evolving testimony among Jim Penniston and others in the
Rendlesham Forest case that should have raised some flags with a serious journalist.

  • Please keep it real.

Linda Linda Moulton-Howe + Promethius Entertainment + Rendelsham + Jim Penniston + resurgence of old/worn/hoaxy stories = History Channels Next Season.

Check into it… and then ask why and who.

Hint: Owning the content of a story equals a fine pay day & Keeping these stories fresh and combining old/new content at these “seminars” equals years and years to come of rediculous bunny holes.

Stop insinuating she has has the wool pulled over her eyes. She knows exactly what she is doing.

I have been listening to Whitley Streiber’s “Dreamland” for years.  What a waste of f@cking time, now that I have found you two, I won’t be listening to that crap again.  I can’t believe I didn’t know anything about this podcast before now.  You guys are genuine, if you think something is nonsense, that’s what you say.  If anyone listens to the other podcast that I mentioned, I’ve become increasingly irritated that it is all about sponsorship – someone has written some book about a paranormal subject, pays their fee to sell the book on the aforementioned site, and gets an interview on Dreamland thrown in as part of the deal – regardless of whether it is believable or not.  This is truly refeshing.  And the fact that you are Australians just makes it better.  Thanks.

It is about time that you guys put on your critical thinking hat on Linda Moulton Howe. Always be wary of what is their motivation (to sell books, lecture tour, etc…). Your show is entertaining and sometimes thought provoking.
