Mysterious Universe

I handle the particle physics at 8th Kind now. Plus I am from Melbourne.

That account from Finland immediately made me this of this famous painting by William Blake: Jacob’s Ladder.

(Notice the the angel at the bottom, carrying a large basket over his head)

Plus, it’s not surprising to find accounts of people incongruously going back to sleep when having abduction-type experiences. Like Mike Clelland, who once observed from his window 5 Gray-type entities standing at his porch , and had the distinct thought in his head: “Now is the time to shut down and go to sleep.”

By the way, the Higgs Boson was NOT originally named the “God particle” but the author of the book, Leon Lederman, wanted to call the book “The God Particle: If the Universe Is the Answer, What Is the Question?” wanted to call it the “goddamn particle” because it was so hard to find! The publisher decided to change the name of the book. The rest is history.

The “kids say the creepiest things” segment reminded me of an incident when I was 5. I was taking a bath and began pondering the world while sitting there. The train of my thoughts went to the concept of “eternity” and I became increasingly overwhelmed and panicked when I realized that now that I was here, I was never going to go away. I suppose my Catholic upbringing helped reinforce the idea that my soul would hang around forever. The thought of being trapped in existence for all eternity, in whatever form that would take, was finally too much for my little 5 year old mind to handle and I began crying hysterically. Imagine my mother’s bewilderment when she came running in and encountered a young child babbling and sobbing about “the world is going to keep going on and on and nobody can stop it”. I remember being really angry at being brought into a world that I could never escape from. Kind of weird for a little kid to have these kinds of thoughts, I suppose.
